At first glance, he looks like a she-cat, and he is often mistaking for one. However, Mel takes these mistaken identities in stride, playing along and sometimes pretending to be a she-cat until the other realizes their mistake. He also looks like the type to be narcisstic, always worrying about his appearance, but in actualility he loves getting dirty, although not to the point of being unhygenic. He has a great sense of humor, and he is pretty laid-back, as nothing much bothers him and he is difficult to anger.
